ok , this might sound stupid but here goes , have the last of the tdm 850 and need to remove the tank , its got the hidden petcock in the center of the tank , undid the bolts but when i lifted the tank found could barely get the fingers under it to turn the tap off due to the length of fuel hose , is this normal , could pull the hose off but would be a lot of fun to refit also found when turned tap off it started to leak onto my fingers (but not when turned on) so tanks definitely got to come off if only for the leak is the hose suppose to be that short or is there a special way for removal like the #####ing battery

Bit fiddly but not overly so. You won't get your hand in in the handshake position. Flat hand and a bit of swearing getting the crap pipe clips off...

Don't be tempted to extend the pipe flea. It'll end up kinked. Glad you mentioned that leak. Turned mine off for tank removal and the same thing happened. I'll need a seal methinks.

damm there goes that idea (lengthen) I like my tdm.. I love my tdm but starting to realise why they didn't take off in aust , finding it to be one of the hardest bikes iv owned to do normal work on .. here in aust we have big distances so maintainence is fairly often , just lucky mines a fairly kl bike (63 thou) and I use another 2 bikes (and car)as well so maintanice doesn't come around as often , got me beat why the engineers made things so hard to do , mates got the 2003 tdm 900 and he reckons its a breeze to work on (they must have got rid of most of the kinks)

I found it easier to have a piece of 2" x 1" wood to support the tank at the back whilst I take off the pipes.

same for reverse procedure too

Pretty sure the last time I had to wrastle with the tank I ended up just turning it 90o to get access to whatever I was accessing.

Fixed the leak in 10 minutes flea. Tap off, split it, brake clean and wipe off the deposits from the skinny o ring seal and from the housing it sits in. Reassemble with the tap midway twix on and off..don't lose the springy washer.....hth..
