The head is off, just waiting for valve stem seals and a head gasket....fork seals on their way too....

All bearings seem to be in good order.

Hi folks.

I have for sale my old TDM as described above. Selling this as a project, its an MOT'd bike with full Givi luggage but comes with a fault. There is also about half of another TDM - both 4TX's.

The main bike was my second TDM, its a T reg on 74k miles, its all present and MOT'd till Jan 17. Unfortunately the top end has gone, I think it's thrown a valve or something. Soon as it went I stopped the engine to limit any further damage. Here's the complicated-to-explain bit. The engine on the T reg bike came off my old P reg TDM, its only done 40k (I still have the clocks from the older bike which along with everything else I have is included for sale.)

Now, the original T reg engine - the bottom end went, I think one of the cylinder links to the crank came away (it made a splendid noise...) The top end is fine so could be swapped over.

The T reg bike has brand new tires (only done about 300 miles), and has no advisories on the MOT. The battery is new and its been serviced (for what its worth.)

You'll also get:

Yellow plastics, the tail and nose cone included (but not the wee side bits.)

seat

clocks

headlight unit

wiring loom

rear lights

assorted relays and electrical stuff

front wheel

front breaking

spare monoshock

replacement ignition barrel

plus much more - you'll need a van.

What isn't there is frame and swing arm, rear wheel, ignition coils (they're already on the T reg bike.) Forks and yokes are there but I think they're bent.

Story is: The P reg yellow bike was my first, but it was stolen recovered. I was going to put it back on the road but with the bent forks...It was too much to do. So I bought the T reg black bike and used the old one as a donor bike. I swapped some new bits over (the yellow bike had been stored for a while, I'd just put it back on the road when it was stolen.)

The T reg black bike is in good nick bar the top end problem, has full luggage and many new parts. It has an embarrassingly loud aftermarket exhaust and was running well.

£400 for the lot. But you'll need a van, I haven't ran the black bike (although it does start) because I don't want to make it any worse.

Also have a KTM, which last night was nearly stolen but for the immobiliser kicking in, need to replace the ignition barrel and flog. Fed up worrying about bikes being stolen, so I'm selling up.

Ask any questions but please don't ask for specific parts, I haven't got time to dig things out or go searching. If you need more photos, let me know.

In East Lothian.

No Jim.....I cleaned up the garage the week before i took delivery of the mk2....but then i hadn't banked on there being so many spares coming with it.

Need to clean up again now....."clean as you go" went out of the window after a while !

Just wow.

The main reason I know its the bike you bought from me is by the rear foot pegs...

It looks completely different, it looks better than both bikes when I bought them first time round. The black and yellow really works...

Love it.

I don't know because I only finished it today and it's just started snowing....... Hopefully I'll get out soon, but i feel it should be good, all bearings and bushings were checked and greased, new tyres and very comfy.....I'll post  when I've ridden it :)

Hi Paul !

Yes there was no shortage of enough parts....still very grateful to you :)   It hasn't been plain sailing with the engine but all is well now. The carbs  seem to be a bit rich, maybe worn emulsion tubes (on a 75k mile bike thats understandable !) or maybe it has richer jets fitted because of the straight through exhaust, I'll look into it, there is a pair of low mileage carbs here too isn't there :)

The side panels have only been vinyl wrapped, there's a few wrinkles in them, but it's still a better finish than if I had of tried spraying them yellow.

Can't wait to ride it now, I've made some baffles for the exhaust so you won't know when I'm riding through Prestonpans !

Should  slip through   MOT next month no bother

Cheers......How's the  KTM ?

Chris

I've kind of lost track of what went where...

Pretty sure the carbs that were in the box are the original yellow bike's carb - which I was told had been rejetted to suit the Micron 2-1 system that was fitted to that bike. The black bike - was all standard but had a much higher mileage. The black bikes original exhaust was rotten, the exhaust on it was one I got from eBay.

The Yellow bike always ran rich, and burnt a ton of oil, I never really ran the black bike for long enough to appreciate its quirks - it did sound and feel a lot smoother though. I remember when I bought the Yellow TDM, it looked so good, the guy had really polished it up, he said it had been dyno'd and modified. While visiting a bike dealer in Dunfermline, the guy there recognised it and asked if I still had all the dyno graphs etc, he said they had it in there (either for sale or for servicing, I forget which) and it had been modified (rejetted etc...)

Saying that, the guy I bought the yellow bike from said it would easily do 150mph... So... You know...

Thats all great, mate, it confirms what i thought/hoped.... good to hear that the yellow bikes carbs had been rejetted because hopefully they were cleaned at the same time

I can tell the black bike's carbs (current ones) are rich because it only needs a touch of choke to start. and smells rich at various revs.

Happy Days !  Can't wait to get a ride on it now...looks like it might be a clear evening later, fingers crossed

I always assumed that was a quirk with older TDM's, both the yellow and black bikes never seemed to need the choke to start.

Funnily enough, the KTM also doesn't need any choke either. Maybe its me...

Glad it ran okay.

TDM's are sturdy things, they just seem to keep going.

Got another battery for the KTM, need to get that in at the weekend and take it out for a spin. Then it'll need the finance paid off and put up for sale - maybe - or I might trade it in...

Not sure...

They're cheap and excellent quality.
Company owned by an ex pat and his Thai wife. They're really on the ball and delivery is quick.
Also a great video of fitting the seals etc. When I replaced my TRX seals the cold start enrichener worked property for the first time. Watch out for the high idle speed on "choke" though!
